Emotional Hostage-Taking: Recognizing Abuse in Relationships

All of my content posted under this name is either dedicated to discussing cluster b disorder or codependency. Emotional hostage taking isn’t exclusive to either of these groups but it is used almost regularly by cluster b. Not only is it extremely controlling but it’s abusive.

First off, if you are with someone who threatens to harm themselves do not take it lightly. If someone says they plan to harm and or delete themselves you need to call the police or better yet, take them to the ER and get them admitted. I can understand in life there are times when we all want to self destruct, heck I’ve been there myself. There’s a huge huge huge difference between someone who has gone through significant trauma and cries about wanting to self harm ONCE OR TWICE versus someone who uses those threats on a regular basis to get what they want. If you are with a partner who has threatened to harm themselves more than a couple times MAX, you need to get out of the relationship because you are being abused, manipulated, and controlled.

Borderlines are drawn to codependents! So much so that there’s books like “the human magnet syndrome” written exclusively about the phenomenon. That’s because a borderline relationship is a codependent dynamic in which they play the damaged vulnerable child while the codependent plays the…
