How to Handle One-Sided Conversations with Narcissists
There are a few reasons why they talk about themselves unnecessarily. It is their egotistical behavior overwhelmed by their own inner feelings that propel them to constantly talk about themselves. Like most people excluding narcissists want to be heard; we all want to be heard. However, those with NPD narcissistic personality disorder take the entire opportunity to put the spotlight only on them. Due to their self-absorbed narcissistic nature they love to hear themselves talk. They do all the talking while you listen.
They will find a way to interrupt you and redirect the conversation onto themselves. You may even notice that they will keep talking about themself so that you or others don’t have a chance to say a word. Narcissists don’t want to give their targets or victim any time to stop and think before making a decision. Very similar to an aggressive car salesman who won’t give you time to think, but they’re expecting you to buy the car or item before you can even make a sound decision or think clearly. They are only interested in a conversation if it’s about them or something related to them, not you unless it can benefit them in some way. Everything has to be about them, or centered around them, because this gives them validation, it makes them feel important.
