How to Spot and Manage a Narcissistic Manager
You proceed with caution, vigilance, and awareness. Do not give them a reason to question your job performance, make certain that you’re on time, and that your work standards meet or exceeds the qualifications. Distance yourself as much as possible and remain occupied with your work. If you can avoid any lunch gatherings or after work gatherings, they only do this to learn more about you especially your weaknesses, and personal life. They are really good at learning your strengths, so they can learn your weaknesses. They will encourage you to divulge personal information so that later it can be used as ammunition or against you to hurt, sabotage, or humiliate you. Do not get dragged into any office politics or gossip, and do not speak negatively of no one. Be as boring as possible and involve in your work responsibilities.
It is a terrible position to be in as an employee dealing with a narcissistic supervisor. The narcissistic boss wants to feel powerful due to their superiority complex. They will berate your work and will make it seem like you are the issue. They will also get other managers, upper managers, coworkers to believe their false narrative about you.
