The Hidden Insecurity Behind Narcissistic Self-Absorption
Narcissists are self-absorbed, because of their insatiable thirst to fill their internal emptiness. Narcissists are not only self-absorbed but also self-preoccupied, self-centered, self-entitled, self-obsessed, egotistical, and selfish.
Narcissists typically don’t show much concern about anyone or anything outside their (narrow) self-interest. They have the mentality that it is all about them, and what they want or need at the expense of others. Narcissists have a very low esteem and are very insecure under their fake amor of self-assurance. So, they counteract those feelings of inadequacy with being self-absorbed as a way to avoid the feelings of vulnerability. Underneath their self-centeredness, they are likely afraid of feeling flawed, criticized, powerless, unworthy, or out of control.
Narcissists are self-absorbed, because it helps moderates their weakness, helplessness, or shameful feelings in anxiety. People with severe depression appear totally self-absorbed and this can be said the same for those who have narcissistic personality disorder. Their self-absorption undermines their capacity for empathy and true understanding of the thoughts, feelings, needs, and emotions of others. Their egoistic self-absorption is part of their personality disorder of narcissism. Their only satisfaction derives from the gratification they get from cultivating a sense of superiority, manipulation, abuse, power, self-entitlement which co-relates' to being self-absorbed.
Narcissists are self-absorbed, because of their emptiness, lack of empathy, and inability to self-reflect. So, they fool themselves, and others into believing that they are more important than what they believe they are!
