The Traits of a Narcissist and How They Impact Others
There are several things you need to know about a narcissist.
1. Who they are, 2. How they operate, and 3. What you need to do to protect yourself.
(1) Who they are: The most common symptoms include:
- Being overly boastful, and arrogant
- Pretending to be superior to others by looking down on others as inferior
- Lack of empathy for others
- Extremely selfish, cruel, and callous
- Monopolizing conversations
- Impatient, angry, unhappy, depressed, or has mood swings when criticized…
- Low self-esteem and insecure
(2) How they operate: Those with narcissistic personality disorder involves a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for attention/admiration. Those with NPD can be describe as cocky, manipulative, selfish, and demanding. This way of thinking and behaving surfaces in every area of the narcissist’s life from work, friendships, family, and relationships. They don’t see you. They don’t hear you. They don’t care about you. They don’t recognize you as someone who exists outside of their own needs.
(3) What you need to do: For these reasons listed above it is important to educate yourself on this personality disorder, establish boundaries, standards, and expectations to protect your emotional-mental health.
