Introduction: The Mystery of the Unknown Unknowns

Throughout human history, the pursuit of knowledge has been driven by the desire to understand the world around us. We have strived to fill the gaps in our understanding, moving from “known knowns” (what we know we know) to “known unknowns” (what we know we don’t know), and even grappling with “unknown knowns” (what we don’t realize we know). However, there exists a fourth category that presents the greatest challenge and the most profound mystery: the “unknown unknowns.”

“Unknown unknowns” refer to those things we are entirely unaware of — the gaps in our knowledge that we do not even recognize as gaps. These are the uncharted territories of understanding that we have yet to discover or conceive of.
